The Francis was an exploration in concept as much as design. Stonewall Station was looking for something unique for the category, as the building itself is perched atop a hill right at the entrance to Charlotte and they wanted to make a statement. Although this logo ultimately wasn’t selected, I pushed the idea further because it captured something playful and smart, and who doesn't love seeing a little caterpillar in a logo? The name draws from philosopher Francis Bacon, one of the earliest to embrace scientific method, so I visualized transformation through a caterpillar, chrysalis, and butterfly—all contained in a study jar. The result was a mark that balanced curiosity, growth, and sophistication.
